7th August,1989....I was born....15th November,1989....Sachin was born..He is writing history and I am writing His Story!!
Cricket to me till today has always been just Sachin..He is out and all my interest in the game is over..Yeah,it might not be the perfect sign of a cricket buff but I can't help(like many others)..He has influenced me in so many ways that it all starts and ends with him..
There have been so many different columns and articles regarding him completing 20 years of international cricket.. But most of them ended discussing how talented he was from his childhood and how he has scaled every cricketing peak over the past two decades..Now,these are things that any average cricket lover also knows by heart..So, there's no point in discussing that..
I just wanna share my thoughts on the influence that he has had on me and billions of other people's lives..
The year '89 had so many things happening in it--The Berlin Wall fell, there was tension brewing in the J&K,a shirtless star was born in Bollywood,etc..But nothing greater than Sachin happened..Nope,not even the Berlin Wall united as many people as this boy did!! Such was his charisma, his presence that the entire world waited for him with baited breath..he has held our attention from the very first day,and continues to do so..different times, different reasons for gluing on to him..First time we wanted to see how can a 16 year old do what he was doing and now 20 years down we are wondering how can a 36 year old do what he is doing!! Such is he..
Bunking schools and classes to watch him bat has been one of the most loved memories of childhood..And then if he was out for a low score all hell broke loose..My Mum had a horrible time trying to stop my unending tears..And then started the wait for the next match and the next century!! And how he has made me cry hundreds of times and then paid off my wait with centuries almost those many times!!
My childhood is incomplete without him..Every evening I used to try and copy his shots..the way he lifted his bat..the way he played those checked drives and all..and then after some years I realised all is waste..I can never be like him..He is ONE and will remain so..
We all have our favourite stars and then the ones whom we don't like..but in Sachin's case everybody loves him..Those who didn't initially they also started to like him because you can ignore someone for 1 year,5 years,10 years but that's it..You can't ignore someone for two decades!!
He has changed the way we look at sports..He has taught us the work ethics of a Genius..
Every single person of the country remains glued to the TV set while he is at the crease..The silence at the temples across the country on Shivratri of 2003 was to be seen to be believed..India was chasing Pakistan in WC and the Boy Wonder was as usual doing miraculous things!! Suddenly it was proved that for us he was more important than God Himself..
I can continue and go on and on and on..But.......Let's just pray he keeps us entertained the way he has done for many more years to come and may he has good health and continue to rule the world..Hail Sachin!!!!
